Top 10 Moments In STAPLES Center History

STAPLES Center- home of prestigious concerts, award shows, and sporting events has even more to celebrate this year as the venue marks its 20th Year on October 17th!

From award shows, to championship games, to record breaking concerts, STAPLES Center has seen a lot in their 20 years and we are here to relive some of their top moments!  

1. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band (1999)

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band rocked the house with the first ever public event at STAPLES Center on October 17, 1999. 

2. Los Angeles Lakers First Championship At STAPLES Center (2000)

Led by Finals MVP, Shaquille O'Neal, the Lakers secured a Championship within the first year of opening the STAPLES Center doors!

3. Lisa Leslie's Dunk (2002)

Lisa Leslie, former player of the Los Anegels Sparks, made the first in-game dunk in WNBA history! #GirlPower

4. WWE WestleMania 21 (2005)

The first WrestleMania that took place at STAPLES Center featured Batista, who defeated Triple H to win the Heavyweight title.

5. Travis Pastrana's Double Back Flip (2006)

Travis Pastrana, professional motorsports competitor and stunt performer, stunned the X Games audience when he completed the first ever double back flip in competition history! 

6. Garth Brooks Benefit Concerts (2008)

Country musician, Garth Brooks, put on five concerts in two days, raising millions to benefit the California firefighters and wildfire victims involved in the horrible 2007 fire season. 

7. Antonio Margarito vs. Shane Mosley Boxing Match (2009)

Mosley took back the WBA Welterweight Championship from Antonio Margarito with a TKO in the 9th round. And not to mention, this was done in front of the largest crowd in STAPLES Center history. 

8. Los Angeles Kings Win The Stanley Cup (2012)

The Kings defeated the New Jersey Devils, leading to their first Stanley Cup victory in franchise history! Go Kings Go!

9. Taylor Swift Breaks Record For Sold-Out Shows (2015)

Pop star, Taylor Swift, made history when she sold out five shows of her 1989 World Tour at STAPLES Center in August of 2015. Kobe Bryant surprised her on-stage to announce that she will have her own banner hanging in STAPLES Center alongside the Kings and Lakers championship banners. 

10. Nipsey Hussle's Celebration of Life (2019)

Nearly 20,000 people attended the West Coast rapper's memorial service at STAPLES Center following his tragic passing on March 31, 2019.
