\"The Golden Voice of Africa\" Salif Keita Performs at The Conga Room Wednesday April 6, 2011by laliveinsider on Thu., Mar 24 at 10:00 AM
3/24/11 (Los Angeles, CA) - Internationally renowned as "The Golden Voice of Africa" and credited as one of the founders of the Afro-pop genre, multiple Grammy®-nominee Salif Keita is back with a North American tour making a stop at the renowned Conga Room.
A night that promises a mesmerizing performance with Keita's soaring vocals and emotionally-fuelled songs, he performs on April 6, 2011 at 8 p.m. at the hub of Latin music in LA, The Conga Room, located at 800 West Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles, 90015. Tickets are on sale now at www.congaroom.com.
Keita has earned numerous accolades, amongst them being The New York Times who stated that his voice "leaps out of every song with tender urgency" and The Washington Post noted, "Salif Keita's voice is one other mortals can only aspire to."
His music combines traditional West African music styles with influences from both Europe and the Americas, and an unmistakably overall Islamic sound accompanied by musical instrumentation of balafons, djembes, guitars, koras, organs, saxophones and synthesizers.
Keita will be performing songs off his current U.S. release and latest in a trilogy of acclaimed acoustic oriented recordings (Moffou 2002, M'Bemba 2006) La Différence succeeded in bringing global recognition to the cause of albinism and the current environmental tragedy in Africa. Salif sings a hymn of universal tolerance in the title track where he poetically claims, "some of us are black, some are white/all that difference has a purposefor us to complete each other/let everyone receive love and dignity/the world will be a more beautiful place."
La Différence won the Victoires des Musiques award for Best World Music in France (the equivalent to a U.S. Grammy) and recently Salif became Peace Ambassador for the African Union to bring his celebrity to end fighting in conflict zones and raise awareness about the plight of the African Albino.
