OZOMATLI celebrate 15 sweet years together with a formal \"Quinceañera Party\" - December 18th at Club Nokia, Los Angeles Celebrated Los Angeles culture-mashers Ozomatli will be celebrating their 15th anniversary by headlining a formal \"Quinceañera Party\" on Saturday, December 18th at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles. The band will be performing songs from Ozomatli's newest studio album, \"Fire Away\", as well as performing Ozomatli classics from their four acclaimed studio discs released over the previous decade and a half. The \"Quinceañera Party\" promises to bookend Ozomatli's successful year with a huge bang.
The Quinceañera is a right of passage, marking the transition from childhood to adulthood and celebrated throughout Latin America, its roots buried deeply embedded in Mayan and Aztecan history. Upholding Quinceañera tradition, the members of Ozomatli will be wearing celebratory costumes and are requesting their audience to wear traditional formal attire as well. In addition, there will be photo booths allowing Ozo's fans to have their picture taken with the band, and the entire Club Nokia audience will be invited to celebrate Ozomatli's milestone by participating in the \"Quinceañera waltz\".
Ozomatli's \"Quinceañera Party\" represents the third and final installment in a series of celebrations recognizing the fifteenth year of the LA based and Grammy-award winning band.
The first took place earlier this year, as The City of Los Angeles officially declared April 23rd, 2010 as \"Ozomatli Day\", as well as every following April 23rd, in perpetuity. That event included a special \"Ozomatli Day\" presentation by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa and Los Angeles City Council members, and took place downtown at historic Los Angeles City Hall.
The second event was Ozomatli's recent ¡Viva Mexico! show headlining the Hollywood Bowl, featuring special guest MC Cheech Marin, and performances by the Art In The Park Girls Choir and acclaimed Mexican wrestling and burlesque troupe LuchaVaVOOM.
2010 has shown Ozomatli to be working at their usual feverish pace, as the band recently collaborated with the Boston Pops Orchestra for the 125th Pops Anniversary Celebration, and once again served as US Cultural Ambassadors with a State Department trip to China and Mongolia.
The band are also the latest recipients of KCET's prestigious \"Local Heroes Award\", recognizing Ozomatli for their music as well as their longstanding commitment to human rights and the environment.
Ozomatli has spent the 15 years working diligently to spread its message of peace, communication and understanding through music, and December 18th's \"Quinceañera Party\" allows the members of Ozomatli a chance to commemorate this occasion together, thank their west coast fans for their longstanding support, and ready themselves for fifteen more.
