Hamburg, April 13th, 2010 - In Hamburg today, Anschutz Entertainment Group, a subsidiary of the Anschutz Corporation, and TelefÃ³nica O2 Germany announced the expansion of their strategic partnership. TelefÃ³nica O2 Germany takes over the naming rights for the Hamburg arena, which has been part of the Anschutz Group since 2007. As of today, the Color Line Arena is the O2 World Hamburg. The partnership has been concluded for ten years. The objective pursued by the partners is to improve the arena patrons' experience. For this reason, the arena, which has enjoyed exceptional success thus far, is to be upgraded in technical terms in the coming weeks and months, and an annex to the Arena is planned to be built.
Tim Leiweke, President & CEO of the Anschutz Entertainment Group Inc., celebrated the naming rights for the Hamburg arena going to O2, saying \"I congratulate O2 and our team in Germany on this further cooperation. With the O2 World Hamburg and the O2 World Berlin, we claim a tremendous share in the German entertainment market\". With this cooperation, O2 is making the Hamburg arena an integral part of its entertainment concept for the major cities of Europe. Together with The O2 London, The O2 Dublin, the O2 Arena Prague and the O2 World Berlin, five top arenas in Europe are now forming a platform which provides an exceptional experience to its customers, and to all patrons as well.
RenÃ© Schuster, CEO of TelefÃ³nica O2 Germany, provided some background, \"After buying HanseNet with its successful brand Alice, this is our second major investment in Hamburg this year\". As a host of premium sports and entertainment events, the O2 World Hamburg will be a major component of the O2 Crew - the entertainment community for O2 customers and their friends. The Lady Gaga concert on May 10th, 2010 will be the first Hamburg event for which members of the O2 Crew can win up to 500 tickets and special services. \"This is a double win-win situation, because our collaboration will also benefit northern Germany and our customers\", RenÃ© Schuster is pleased to report. In addition to exclusive, international top acts, the O2 customers in the North will enjoy the advantages of many new options: tickets available for sold-out concerts, a \"Blue Lane\" for quick access to the entertainment experience, or a seat upgrade to \"Blue Seats\" using text messaging. Thus, the O2 World Hamburg will be equipped with modern, digital information platforms (among other things, a 360Â° LED band); the suites and premium seat areas will be converted and upgraded and the arena will be included in Germany-wide media and advertisement campaigns. Moreover, it is planned to construct a new entrance building that will be a special experience in and of itself. The home of the HSV handball team and the Hamburg Freezers ice hockey team will become even more appealing, in order to attract even more fans and patrons.
The managing director of the arena Uwe Frommhold waxed euphoric, \"This partnership will enormously enhance Hamburg's position as an entertainment destination.
