Nationally Recognized Architects with Extensive Sports Venue Experience Will Immediately Begin Work on Los Angeles' New Football Stadium and Event Center

3/25/11 (Los Angeles, CA) - AEG, developers of Farmers Field, has selected Gensler, a leading global architecture, design, planning and strategic consulting firm to provide services for Farmers Field, the $1 billion, privately-financed downtown Los Angeles stadium and Event Center. Gensler's appointment was announced by Tim Romani, President and CEO of ICON Venue Group, AEG's Owners Representative for the project.

"Today's announcement represents a significant milestone and is a further sign that AEG is determined to make Farmers Field a reality while providing the leadership to modernize the Los Angeles Convention Center," said Romani. "There is no doubt that the new jobs associated with this project combined with the expected increase to the tourism and hospitality industries will have a significant, positive effect to the City's economy."

Gensler, a Los Angeles-headquartered company specializing in the creation of iconic venues for sports, entertainment, commercial and hospitality clients with offices in 35 locations worldwide, will immediately begin to provide services to support the extensive Environmental Impact Report (EIR) already underway for the project. A complete draft of the EIR is targeted for completion by year's end. Gensler will additionally begin work on the overall design of Farmers Field with the goal of having initial design drawings by first quarter of 2012 to continue to move the project forward.

"Having these documents will allow AEG to begin procuring the initial stages of the construction of Farmers Field," added Romani.

Additionally, Gensler's team led by Andy Cohen, FAIA and Ron Turner, FAIA will begin to create concept schematic design work and other initial planning services for the Event Center and stadium expected to be the home of an NFL team when completed.

"Adding Gensler to our Farmers Field project team now gives us the technical planning and creative design elements that we need to complete the comprehensive environmental study and move into the critical phases of the project," said Romani. "Gensler's familiarity with the L.A. LIVE campus will allow us to accelerate our EIR work product and continue AEG's mission to return the NFL to Los Angeles."

Concurrently, a separate process to select an architect to design the convention center that will ultimately relocate the existing West Hall is underway. Construction of the new "Pico Hall," as it's being called, is expected to begin in 2012. The overall project including Farmers Field and Event Center is expected to create over 12,000 construction-related jobs with a total impact of over 10,000 additional jobs coming on-line by the completion.

"We are thrilled to be a part of this important landmark project. Farmers Field will create a gateway to Downtown Los Angeles and an anchor to L.A. LIVE and the L.A. Convention Center," said Cohen.

Los Angeles is also the main hub for Gensler's global Sports and Entertainment practice, led by Turner who has been responsible for the design of some of the world's most notable sports-anchored entertainment districts and was the Principal in Charge (while with NBBJ) of the STAPLES Center project. Turner's NFL portfolio includes the acclaimed Paul Brown Stadium for the Cincinnati Bengals and Lincoln Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles. Among Gensler's current Sports/Entertainment projects are a 3-million-square-foot Event Center in Macau for the Las Vegas Sands Corp., a new Sports Center in Abu Dhabi and locally, renovations to the Los Angeles Coliseum, the new sports center at Santa Monica College, and a new field house at Southwestern College. Gensler provided all architectural services for the 54-story hotel and residence tower at L.A. LIVE which recently received LEED Silver Certification.

"This project presents an extraordinary opportunity for Los Angeles. We are excited to be working with AEG and ICON to help realize this new vision for Los Angeles and the L.A. LIVE Sports and Entertainment District," added Turner.
