IINC, L.A. LIVE and Law Enforcement Toast the Designated Driver This Holiday Season

LOS ANGELES - Battling bartenders will descend on a downtown Los Angeles hot spot Tuesday to promote responsible holiday hospitality by competing to create the best alcohol-free mocktail.

Hosted by the Insurance Information Network of California® and L.A. LIVE, the Battle of the Bartenders® will team up the California Highway Patrol, the Los Angeles Police Department, celebrity judges and bartenders from 11 L.A. LIVE restaurants and bars to demonstrate how party hosts can serve quality non-alcoholic drinks to help keep their guests safe on the ride home.

The event pits bartenders against each other to develop the best original non-alcoholic drink.  Beverages are judged on presentation, creativity, taste and simplicity.  The contest will kick off at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at ESPN Zone L.A. LIVE.

Judges include  Brian Long of 710 ESPN Radio, Antonio Mejias-Rentas of La Opinion, Betty Hallock of the Los Angeles Times, LAPD Lt. Terri Brinkmeyer and CHP Officer John Harris.

Award-winning recipes will be available following the event on IINC's Web site at www.iinc.org and at www.battleofthebartenders.org. Alcohol-related crashes resulted in 1,347 deaths and 20,877 injuries in California in 2007, according to the CHP.  In Los Angeles County alone, 268 lives were claimed and 5,169 people were injured in alcohol-related collisions.

\"The Battle of the Bartenders® is more than competition.  It's a reminder to holiday hosts that by serving interesting non-alcoholic drinks, they make it easier for their driving guests to say no to alcohol,\" said IINC Executive Director Candysse Miller.

\"For designated drivers, the holiday parties don't have to start and end with club soda,\" said Tammy Billings, Director of Marketing for L.A. LIVE.  \"These non-alcoholic drinks will put the fun back in the festivities for those responsible for driving their friends home.\"
