Avengers To Celebrate 'Kickoff 2008' On February 27

Two days prior to their season opener, the Los Angeles Avengers will host \"Kickoff 2008,\" on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Nokia Plaza L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles. The star-studded charity event, celebrating the start of the Arena Football League season, features a special performance by REO Speedwagon and dinner by Wolfgang Puck.

\"Kickoff 2008\" will be hosted by Fox Sports Net's Bill Macdonald and television personality Melissa Rivers, who will introduce the Avenger players, coaches and \"A-Team\" dancers. The festivities, which include a cocktail reception and silent auction, begin at 7 p.m.

Tables of 10 for $5,000 and individual tickets for $500 are available for purchase by calling 1-888-AVENGERS. All proceeds benefit PADRES Contra El C??ncer and the STAPLES Center Foundation. Actress Eva Longoria Parker, who has served as PADRES' national spokesperson since 2005, is scheduled to be in attendance along with various other celebrities.

REO Speedwagon, world famous for No. 1 hits such as Keep on Loving You and Can't Fight This Feeling, is currently touring North America with Styx and Def Leppard. \"Kickoff 2008\" will be REO Speedwagon's second football-related performance this month, after headlining the \"Saturday Night Spectacular\" in Scottsdale, Ariz., prior to Super Bowl XLII. The band released its 15th studio album Find Your Own Way Home last year.

The Avengers will host the New Orleans VooDoo on Friday, Feb. 29, at STAPLES Center in what will be the first game of the AFL's 22nd season. The game is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
