AEG Facilities Names Rod O'Connor Executive Vice President, Europe

3/23/11 (London & Los Angeles) - Emphasizing the continued expansion and importance of the organization's venues throughout Europe, Rod O'Connor will return to AEG Facilities to assume the newly created position of Executive Vice President, Europe it was announced by Bob Newman, Chief Operating Officer, AEG Facilities.

As a member of AEG Facilities' senior executive team based in Europe (London), O'Connor will work with members of AEG's Europe-based management team to oversee operations, programming, marketing, revenue maximization, sponsor activation and new business development for AEG's network of venues throughout Europe including The O2 arena (London), O2 World (Berlin). O2 World Hamburg, Ericsson Globe Arena (Stockholm), Türk Telekom Arena and Ulker Arena (Istanbul), Ahoy (Netherlands) and Bercy Arena (Paris) among others.

Most recently, O'Connor served as the Chief of Staff for the US Department of Energy (DOE) directing the department's principal initiatives and overseeing day-to-day operations for the federal agency whose workforce numbered 115,000 and operated on a budget of $27 billion.

Prior to joining the Department of Energy, O'Connor was with AEG Facilities as Senior Vice President, Operations playing a key role in venue acquisitions while working directly with venues on operations and best practices. He also served as General Manager of The Home Depot Center, a $150 million national training center located on
the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills in Carson, California which is an Official U.S. Olympic Training Site and features elite facilities for soccer, tennis, track & field, track cycling, boxing, lacrosse, rugby, football and other sports, as well as concerts and family shows, and is home to Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA.

Before joining AEG, O'Connor was the president of the X Prize Foundation, a Santa Monica-based non-profit that creates and manages multi-million dollar prize competitions to enable radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity. He is also the founding principal of The ROC Group, a grassroots, communications and event marketing consulting practice with clients in the business, non-profit and political sectors. O'Connor was previously the chief executive officer (CEO) for the 2004 Democratic National Convention Corporation in Boston, Mass. As CEO, he built an organization from the ground up, ultimately managing 300 employees and consultants and a budget in excess of $55 million. Prior to the convention, O'Connor was the vice president for corporate affairs at Citynet Telecommunications. He has also served as a senior aide to Vice President Al Gore and as the chief of staff for the Democratic National Committee.
