First of all...what is the meaning of Flume? 

According to the dictionary, a flume is a ravine or gorge with a stream running through it. Flume is also a famous Australian DJ.

10. So, who is Flume?

Flume's real name is Harley Edward Streten. Harley, born in 91' is an Australian electronic instrumentalist, producer, and DJ.


9. How did he get the name Flume?

When choosing a stage name, he picked one of his favorite Bon Iver songs.  He liked the name because of the musical significance in his life, but also because he liked the way it would look in print. 


8. How did he get his start in music? 

Flume had an interest in music from a young age.  While in school, he was a band geek!  He played the saxophone in his school band for 9 years, even attending band camp.  Flume also showcased his vocals in the choir.  


7. When did he get into electronic music?

When he was 11 years old, Flume got a free music production disk in a box of Nutrigrain cereal.  He started playing around with that, which sparked his interest in electronic music.  


6. What did Flume do before he made it big?

Before making it in the music industry, Flume worked at Hard Rock Café as a waiter for a year.  His least favorite part of the job was singing "Happy Birthday" several times each night.   


5. How did Flume make it in the music industry?

Flume has said that he always knew he would make it in the music industry, it was just a matter of when.  In 2011, he entered an original artists competition with Austalian record label Future Classic.  For the contest, he sumbitted the tracks "Sleepless", "Over You" and "Paper Thin".  He won the contest and was subsequently signed to the label.    


4. He beat WHO on the charts?!?!  

When his first album debuted, it rose to number 1 (in Australia and New Zealand) even though he had some stiff competition in One Direction!  Both albums were relased on the same day, but Flume shockingly beat the boybanders on the charts.    


3. He played at what huge shows in America?

Flume played at the 2013 South by Southwest festival and was part of the stellar 2014 and 2016 Coachella lineup.

Despite all of his success in the U.S., Flume still lives in Australia.


1. What's next? 

Although, he has been approached to work with A List talent.  Flume would like to establish his own brand before producing for other artists.  He eventually wants to score films.
